Communication from Richard Ballard on context    (01)

foot notes and elaboration from Paul Prueitt    (03)

These communications are addressing known methods for producing "concept"
ontology from an elementary analysis of relationship.    (05)

"Relationship" starts off as binary co-occurrence of terms or phrases, or of
patterns of gene expression. Then various techniques are applied to produce
n-aries.    (06)

These look like the picture in:    (07)

and the tutorial materials that follow in that thread.    (09)

The Mark 3 (knowledge processor - as Ballard calls it) has a history which
one can read about. His approach is to develop n-aries (relationships
having arbitrary (but often small < 100) numbers of elements) < r, a(1), .
. . , a(n) > where n is situational and has been derived from the Ballard
information theoretic process (which has been partially published and
extends Shannon).    (010)

When compared with what the ONTAC group often talks about, it has stopped
the philosophical discussion (that really has not and cannot go anywhere),
and is addressing issues that are talked about in the    (011)

ONTAC WG work plan: coordinating efforts on Knowledge Classifications
Systems
and interoperability ....    (013)

I am not endorsing the Mark 3 here, because it will be a proprietary system
and it will not be released until mid 2006. However, the Mark 3 and several
other similar systems are under-development and will leave the ONTAC
discussions at a foot note in an obscure history.    (014)

The government should and could do better. The members of the BCNGroup will
continue work to see that corrections are made - in particular to who is
funded and who is listened to.    (015)
