I added a section called "Fate of the PM CoP" at the beginning of the wiki (http://colab.cim3.net/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?ITPMCoP) with my suggestion for its continuation.  Here's what I had said:

Reply from Jay Alden (Professor, IRM College of National Defense University):  My suggestion would be to “Approve and leave it where it is but structure the subcommittee primarily as an online Community of Practice using this wiki (with occasional meetings scheduled for those who are available).  I would hope that we can reorganize the wiki into sections that allow sharing of important materials and collaboration on new best practices documents.

My thought is that other members would include their suggestions as well to the wiki.  However, if this is not considered the way to go, please don't hesitate to go back to the earlier version of the page.

I have used wiki's before, and this one doesn't seem to be as easy to edit or to format for good looking web pages.  But, I didn't attend Susan's teleconference and may have missed the insights as to how it can be done.  It would be especially beneficial if we could develop several linked pages, each serving a different function in the community.

The Executive Committee of the Federal CIO Council has directed the Best Practices Committee to dissolve all of its communities of practice and reconstitute them as a subcommittee if they can justify their continuation.

The options for the IT Performance Management Community of Practice are:

  • Approve and leave it where it is
  • Approve and move it to another committee (IT Workforce, Architecture and Infrastructure)
  • Not-approve and reconsider it in another form
  • Not approve it

The fate of this community rests on its members and whether they want to make this work.  In the short term, it will require drafting a new charter and stating objectives by July 6 or 9th.  After that, it will require the members to select topics and organize agendas for future meetings.  The time commitment depends upon your level of involvement.

I have served as a co-chairman of this community when it was established as a sub-committee under the Capital Planning Committee.  I will help keep this community alive if enough of the members will step up to keep it going.

I will be on-leave from June 21 – 26.  Please use this forum to exchange your thoughts.
