OJP Information Technology Initiatives
The Global Advisory Committee (GAC) was assembled by the U.S. Attorney General to advise the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) in the ongoing pursuit of interjurisdictional and multidisciplinary Justice Information sharing. The GAC acts as the focal point for Justice Information sharing activities and includes representatives from local, state, tribal, federal, and international agencies.

The purpose of this study was to enhance the efforts of local jurisdictions engaged in Justice Information systems integration and to encourage similar efforts in other jurisdictions. The study builds upon the recommendations from a series of U.S. Department of Justice-sponsored conferences that focused on local and state Information system integration. The research conducted during this study focused on Justice integration governance structures at the local government level.

SEARCH, with Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI) as its contractor,
has developed a "Next Generation" JIEM Modeling Tool
that is currently undergoing testing.
The new JIEM Modeling Tool provides a bridge
to Global JXDM components, that will include Global JXDM
reference exchange documents, as they are developed.
This will help Justice practitioners model the
Information dimension of their TO-BE data exchanges
to be consistent with national Justice data exchange standards.

Colonel Kenneth Bouche, Illinois State Police, representing SEARCH, The National Consortium for Justice Information and Statistics, is currently serving as the GAC chair. Mr. Thomas O'Reilly, Administrator, New Jersey Office of the Attorney General, representing the National Association of Attorneys General on the GAC, serves as the GAC vice chair.

The Users’ Conference is focused on implementation and the issues, tools, and techniques that will help Justice and public safety organizations use the Global JXDM to improve Information sharing. Successful implementation of the Global JXDM requires understanding at the policy, management, operations, and technical staff levels. Sessions will be provided for each of these groups. Organizations should consider sending teams to cover the full range of topics addressed.
