Gentlemen- please note that I am referring this email back to the open SOA CoP forum for planning the May 23/24 SOA for eGov event at MITRE. Brand’s email to all of us spawned from his and my conversation about work that the SOA Committee team had just solidified last Thursday and is in process of packaging into a deliverable- including a project plan, abstract, ideas for potential panelists, desired outcomes, and a survey with a collection instrument.

The combined and collaborative efforts of many IAC volunteers from SIGs like the Emerging Technology and Enterprise Architecture SIGS, who participate in the SOA Committee, have put together a program session that:

  • is designed to help launch the SOA discussion into “beginning with first priorities, first” when determining what to do about SOA in an enterprise-wide government initiative, and
  • is designed to result in dialog and deliverables that logically fit into the lifecycle processes for institutionalizing new approaches to technology-oriented solutions.

To get the dialog on this particular session started-

Sid- here are a couple PowerPoint presentations: http://colab.cim3.net/file/work/SOACoP/Schmelzer03222006.ppt and http://colab.cim3.net/file/work/SOACoP/KriegerAllen03142006.ppt that illustrate the relevance between these sessions and our team’s panel discussion beginning at 11:00am on May 23. Please note that Brand suggests David Allen as an important participant in the panel discussion.

Brand- we are looking to have an interactive session that includes a panel and a moderator / facilitator that will do some “myth-busting” [this is my choice of characterization and words] on issues facing organizations that are launching enterprise SOA initiatives. Do you think we need to create slides as handouts to be put-up on the wiki beforehand? Or, would it be okay for us to capture the dialog from the session, put it into an executive summary and use that to launch the Survey that we created? We would then be able to do something with the Survey results, perhaps in the July timeframe.

Ron, Jason, and David- what questions do you have for the IAC SOA Committee?

r/  Jana

Jana, Per our conversation, please dialogue with Ron and Jason of Zapthink and David Allen about the 11 a.m. - 12 noon panel building on Ron's earlier presentation, Corey's demo, and David Allen's slides.

Thanks, Brand
