Dear USAspending: (01)
My name is Jerry Sheehan and I am a researcher associated with the
California Institute for Telecommunications and Information Technology
(Calit2) at the University of California in San Diego. (02)
I am writing to see if I could get clarification of if USAspending.gov is,
or will, act as a comprehensive repository for information on grants awarded
by the federal government? (03)
Public Law 106-107 did a great job streamlining the identification and
application for federal grants through with Grants.gov. However, there
appears to be no comprehensive authoritative resource which currently allows
the public to see what research is, or has been, funded by the federal
government? (04)
While two of the largest supporters of the federal research and development
agenda (NIH & NSF) do a great job of making their awards information
accessible this unfortunately isn't the case for the balance of awards made
from the federal budget. My understanding is the RADIUS database
administered by RAND as part of a grant from NSF may contain some of this
data. However, my understanding is funding for this source is unclear after
March 31, 2008? (05)
I should also add that it is a pleasure to see a site which is as
technically well developed as the USAspending.gov site. The inclusion of
the API and the exportability of the data should make it a model for other
federal sites trying to provide data access to the public. (06)
Greatly appreciate your assistance. (07)
Sincerely,
Jerry Sheehan
