As another idea, given a list of the things SOA is supposed to accomplish (the list can be his), what things if not resolved are likely to lead to the failure of SOA?  By failure I mean that there will be some well-publicized attempts that go awry and we just look at each other somewhere down the line and wonder how we could have been some naive not to have seen this coming.

Joe,

Its great that David will be there. I have followed his work now for a long time and have learned a lot of good ideas in the application integration area from his books.

What I would like to ask David is to talk about the pragmatic challenges that we face today in implementing  SOA in the spirit and not just do lip service in the letter of the SOA. SOA is in vogue and like many new concepts it too is being implemented as a suite of products by vendors aided by the ignorance of the IT management. A good example is the productization of ESB...!

One thing we have learned from history is that no company can start from scratch-we have to have a federated model to implement newer architecture integrating with the legacy mess, so how can one implement SOA in a federated manner while maintaining the integrity of SOA?

Subject: [soa-forum] October SOA Conference Closing Keynote - Suggestions onThemes

As you know, we are very happy to have David Linthicum are the closing keynote for our October 30th-31st SOA conference. As the organizer of the closing keynote, I would like to give the CoP the opportunity to contribute ideas for themes for the closing keynote (meaning one keynote address can incorporate multiple themes). Think of these as suggestions of things that David can touch on. An example would be "The ROI of SOA".

If you would like to contribute one or more themes, please respond to this e-mail (either directly to me, or to the entire list) and I will forward them to David for his consideration for incorporation. Of course, given 45 minutes he will not be able to incorporate all suggestions (assuming there are plenty!), so the choice of what to incorporate will, of course, be up to him.

Please respond before the end of September, as I have promised David an update by then.

If you'd like some additional inspiration, here is the link to the InfoWorld SOA blog that David is the author of:

Thanks,
Joe
