Jennifer: I think that the SLA presentation (please copy me), the poster
session, and the chart Jane provided should answer most of my questions.    (01)

Thanks to all for these materials.    (02)

At the GTRIC Meeting at the 2008 SLA Annual Meeting in Seattle
http://wiki.sla.org/display/SLATRAN/SLA+2008+Annual+Conference
Bonnie Osif did a presentation on "Transportation Libraries - A Guide to the
Players." I don't think it included everything David is seeking, but she had a
diagram and I believe it included some of the pieces. I could ask her for a
copy if you'd like.    (07)

Leni Oman suggested/requested that the TKNs do a poster for the upcoming TRB
LIST Committee poster session. The following is the submitted poster proposal.
It seems to me that this poster could very well present the information David
listed.     (08)

Title: Developing a Transportation Knowledge Network    (010)

Abstract:
We spend a lot of time looking for information. As budgets and workforce
shrink, we need to develop strategies that minimize this effort. In 2006, a
Transportation Research Board policy study published the report Transportation
Knowledge Networks: A Management Strategy for the 21st Century and recommended
the development of Transportation Knowledge Networks. Three TKNS have evolved:
Midwest Transportation Knowledge Network; Eastern Transportation Knowledge
Network and Western Transportation Knowledge Network. The knowledge network
provides a framework that multiple organizations can use to support search,
discovery, and current awareness. The poster will include:
* A description and building blocks of the Transportation Knowledge
Network
* Existing Transportation Knowledge Networks, products and activities
* What you can do to help develop the Transportation Knowledge Network
* An opportunity to provide your information resource and/or suggestions
for priority information needs.    (012)

Thanks, Sandy. I agree that this document is a good intro to ETKN, for anyone,
but I'm thinking of a document for members once they join that explains the
network of groups/initiatives related to ETKN and the scope of each, plus an
explanation of some of the tools we're using.      (014)

A follow up question for everyone: has a presentation or schematic been
developed that shows the relationships between...    (023)

Regional TKN's
National TKN (& current projects, per RITA website) TLR SLA Pooled-fund Study
RITA AASHTO-RAC TKN Task Force NCHRP studies
Tools: TRIS, OCLC, WorldCat, NTL, TRT, One Search, etc. etc.    (024)

Maybe a 1-2 page intro document for ETKN members could be developed with a
glossary explaining all of these different groups/initiatives and how they're
related. Guess I could volunteer myself to develop it, but you might not see
it for a while :).    (025)

Hi,    (031)

Attached is the brochure by Ron Curb that was mentioned in today's ETKN
meeting. This brochure is a great marketing tool for transportation libraries,
especially to upper management.    (032)
