Tina,
Do not forget that we will be involved in
this study.

TKN ILL Resource Sharing project --update #2
Dear Colleagues-
Please see the e-mail below from Amanda
Wilson discussing the current status of the Resource Sharing Pilot Project.
I told Amanda that I'd check to see if
anybody has any questions at this point, and to see if there's anything I can
help you prepare for the Sept. 1 "live" date.
Please look at this link: http://ntl.bts.gov/networking/TKN_ILL_Guidelines.html
Do you have any
questions...concerns...thoughts?
In preparation for this project, many of
you have been participating in a series of "how-to" webinars
hosted by OCLC. We just completed the first two (overview of resource
sharing, and how to borrow) but there are two more workshops (how to loan, and
follow up questions). Hope you will consider joining us.
See the attached document for details on
how to register.
Again, please let me know if there's
anything I can do to help you...or just to let me know how your summer is
going!

Subject: National TKN ILL Resource
Sharing project -- update #2
Dear Colleagues,
I am sorry I did not get back to you last week – I was
out sick most of the week. This page http://ntl.bts.gov/networking/TKN_ILL_Guidelines.html
will take you to information about the project, guidelines for borrowing and
lending, the ILL request form for those libraries that are not using OCLC for
resource sharing, and the metrics we hope to collect from each library.
Please let me know if you have any comments on the above.
The proposed start date is still 1 September 2008. Funding
discussions and activity continues…
Best regards,
Amanda

Subject: National TKN ILL Resource
Sharing project -- update
Dear Colleagues,
Thank you for participating in the first collaborative
project of the regional TKNs! This is the first step
toward a true National Transportation Knowledge Network project – we
should all be proud. Our community has already demonstrated a strong commitment
to collaboration and support to provide the best services for our users; this
project will help us tell that story.
I would like to send a special thanks to the Transportation
Library Connectivity Pooled Fund Study members and staff who have provided
funding to make this pilot project happen.
Also, thank you to each of the TKN chairs for their
considerable contributions to this project.
Just a few updates on the project status:
1. Our advertised start date for this project was today, 1
August 2008, but we’ve experienced a delay in getting funding. We hope to
have everything in place by no later than 1 September 2008 – please stay
tuned.
2. NTL has a new web page for this project containing basic
guidelines and outlining the eight (8) metrics we will be collecting for this
project. I will send the URL to you next week (we’re tweaking the content
from comments from the TKN chairs). The point is to collect information on how
much resource sharing is happening between TKN libraries, document methods we
use to exchange information (electronic delivery vs. hard copy exchange), and
examine reasons why requests go unfilled.
3. For those not using OCLC for ILL: NTL has developed an ILL request web
form that will email your request to your selected lending library.
4. How the defrayed cost shipping works: you will be given a
FedEx account number to use when shipping or returning items to other TKN
libraries.
Again, the project site I will send next week provides
further information on the ILL form, guidelines and metrics. If you have any
questions about what’s there or the project, please don’t hesitate
to contact your TKN chair or me.
Happy Friday,
Amanda
