- 1) How is “Implementation” being defined for the purposes of this group’s charter? Is it in terms of exploring diverse implementation strategies, where the main commonality is the DRM Abstract Model that Mike has put forth (and which is being revised), or is it something different? (2YTD)
- (2YTM)
- SermKulvatunyou Response for 1): My understanding is that we are trying assess the usability of the DRM Abstract Model for whatever the goals/use cases of the DRM are. I think we can do the XML Schema validation for design, form, consistencies, etc., but I understand that the main goal is the usability and requirement satisfaction. (2YTE)
- 2) Since the FY’07 Consolidated Reference Model does not require any DRM implementation from agencies, is the goal to have something ready by very early next summer for the FY’08 Exhibit 300’s, or is there a different timeframe? That is, when will agencies be expected to implement the DRM? Which Fiscal Year is the target for (a) experimental implementation; (b) real implementation tied to capital planning? (2YTF)
- 3) What will be the interplay between the Implementation and Testing Team and the Red Team? Will the former subsume the latter? (2YTG)
- 4) The chapter teams have just completed initial drafts with a second draft due Sept. 19 th . At least 2 of these chapters discuss specific elements of the DRM XML Schema in a fair amount of detail. We have engaged NIST at least partially for their expertise in XML Schema Validation (to my understanding). We also have an SVG tool that is built around the DRM XML Schema. (2YTH)
- (2YTN)
- If the Implementation is not tied to XML Schema, and if in fact we are pursuing lots of different implementations over the next year, then don’t we have to re-think or at least carefully word references to the XML Schema approach? Don’t we need to make this abundantly clear in our chapters? (2YTI)
- 5) Shouldn’t the Overview chapter (and possibly the Management Strategy as well) make clear what Implementation will entail? (2YTJ)
- (2YTO)
- The August 31 st version of the Overview says: “Implementation and Test Guide – provides guidance on implementation and test of the DRM, including how to implement the DRM XML schema.” (2YTK)
I realize we are dealing with a bunch of rapidly moving targets, but IMHO, we need an anchor (to mix metaphors). This would facilitate work on the 3 “standardization area” chapters. Perhaps the forthcoming charter for the DRM Implementation through Iteration and Testing Team (I2T2?) will help to clarify much of this. (2YTL)
