Ken Orr is an internationally recognized expert on data warehousing, knowledge management, software engineering, business process reengineering, and technology transfer. He is the Founder and Principal Researcher of The Ken Orr Institute, a business technology research organization. Previously, Mr. Orr was an Affiliate Professor and Director of the Center for the Innovative Application of Technology with the School of Technology and Information Management at Washington University (St. Louis). Mr. Orr has more than thirty-nine years of experience in research, analysis, design, project management, technology planning and management consulting. His clients have included such organizations as the States of California, Illinois, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Oregon, and Washington, The City of Chicago, The U.S. Army, Navy, and Marine Corps, FAA, IBM, DEC, Detroit Edison, Xerox, Olivetti (Italy), Pacific, Philip Morris, Pacific Bell (SBC), Bellcore (Telcordia)., Burlington-Santa Fe Railroad, Kellwood Corporation, Phoenix International (Canada), TG and many others. Mr. Orr has written three books (Structured Systems Development, Structured Requirements Definition, and The One Minute Methodology) and is the author of dozens of articles on advanced software development, technology management, and human communication (see Recent Publications. (3HZY)
Mr. Orr was also one of the principal developers of the DSSD (Warnier-Orr) Methodology, and a leading researcher in the development of automated tools for automatic program generation, data base design, business requirements and, advanced client/server prototyping. Mr. Orr’s techniques and Warnier-Orr diagrams have been used by thousands of programmers and developers around the world. The DSSD Methodology, first published in 1981, contained 1,500 pages of material on systems development and project management. Mr. Orr has spoken frequently on the subject of systems methodologies. Mr. Orr is also the developer of the Ken Orr Enterprise Data Architecture (3HZZ)
Based on his work on automated DB and program design, a South American company, ARTech, has developed an automated tool that automatically designs database and generates programs for most of the major databases and most client/server programming languages. Mr. Orr continues to do research in this important area. Mr. Orr is also a frequent speaker at conferences all over the world. In the last decade, for example, he has been a featured speaker at major technical and management conferences in Canada, England, France, Germany, Holland, Italy, Denmark, Spain, Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, Uruguay , Singapore and Japan. In 2000, Mr. Orr has been lecturing on Knowledge Management, Data Warehouse Design and Corporate Portals. Currently, Mr. Orr is working with organizations around the world in the areas of business process reengineering, accelerated systems development, data warehousing, and advanced methodologies. This work has led to a number of new seminars and conferences including Business Process Reengineering, Technology Management, Accelerated Application Development, Reusable Application Models and Templates, Knowledge Management and Enterprise Data Warehousing Architectures.
