The next Emerging Technology (ET) Shared Interest Group (SIG) general membership meeting will take place on Thursday August 24, 2006 from 3:30-5:00pm at the Unisys building in Reston , VA ( 11720 Plaza America Drive ).   This ET SIG Meeting will be co-hosted by the Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) Committee.  All IAC members are welcome to attend.


TOPIC:   Best Practices for Driving SOA Implementation With Enterprise Architecture Programs


What Attendees Will Learn 

1. The impact of Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) on EA programs

2. How architects can ensure widespread SOA adoption within their agency

3. The current state of SOA across federal government

4. How to establish an SOA vision and follow a practice methodology

5. How to cope with confusing buzzwords, conflicting techniques, overlapping technologies, and other aspects of the SOA landscape

6. Best practices for SOA initiatives assessment and measurement of SOA maturity

7. How to achieve a workable balance between the Federal Enterprise Architecture and SOA

 

GUEST SPEAKERS :  Brand Niemann and Greg Lomow, Co-Chairs of the Government SOA Community of Practice (CoP), will provide a keynote address about the SOA CoP and their upcoming ?SOA for eGov Conference?.   The 2 nd annual Service-Oriented Architecture for E-Government Conference will take place on October 30-31, 2006.  SOA CoP is an open community of practice fostered to assist government and commercial organizations in achieving the promise of SOA through collaboration, demonstration and community efforts.  You can learn more about the SOA CoP at http://web-services.gov/soacop/ .   

 

AGENDA:   The SOA Committee will also provide an update on the results of the ?Beta SOA Readiness Survey? that was released during the 1st SOA for eGov Conference.  The goal of the SOA Readiness Survey is to identify where government agencies stand on their SOA adoption initiatives, relative to the cultural and educational challenges posed by SOA.  At the meeting, we will discuss the ?next steps? required to finalize the Survey before releasing it to the government.  We will also ask for volunteers to help refine the final SOA Readiness Survey?so, if you are interested in participating in this initiative, please attend this meeting .
