Team, a subset of our team had a good chat prior to the larger
phone conference yesterday. I think our thoughts line up reasonably well
with the guidance from the steering committee. Here’s what we
agreed:
- The target product is a
communication facilitator between senior business and senior IT
professionals regarding practical choices re: SOA. It should not condescend
to either group, but should err on the side of simplicity.
- The PGFSOA, emphasizing “practical”,
should discuss specific reference implementations and associated pros and
cons. For example, we might talk about instances of proprietary SOA
middleware vs. instances of open ESB and explain value props of turnkey commercially
managed solutions vs. open technology development.
- We will use the
ContributionFive outline as enhanced by Bob (any other future suggestions)
as our editing template. We’ll use the prose in DraftOne (see
link above) as our primary chapter draft. Pls add to and edit that
section.
- We recognize the proliferation
of SOA White Papers, standards, and reference models. Let’s
put together a bibliography of the best and refer our readers to those at
the appropriate spots in our chapter.
Best, Chris
